Questions? You’re Not Alone.
Here, you’ll find answers to some of the most common things caregivers ask when they first reach out. If you don’t see your question here, I’m always just a message away. What exactly is a Personalized Grief Communication Plan?
It’s a custom guide I create based on your unique situation to help you talk to a child about serious illness, death, or grief in ways that are age-appropriate, compassionate, and clear. It includes language suggestions, activity ideas, and gentle steps to help them feel supported — not overwhelmed.
How do I know if this is right for my family?
If you’re feeling unsure about what to say, when to say it, or how much to share with your child about a difficult situation, this is for you. I work with families facing everything from a new diagnosis to a recent death to ongoing grief. Whether your child is 3 or 16, we can tailor the support to meet them where they are.
Do you meet with the children directly?
Right now, my main service focuses on empowering you — the parent, grandparent, or caregiver — to feel confident and supported as you guide a child through this time. I work with adults first, offering coaching and a personalized grief plan. In some cases, I may offer child-focused sessions; we can discuss whether that’s a fit once we’ve worked together.
Is this service available outside of Ontario?
Yes! All of my current services are offered virtually, so I can support families anywhere in Canada (and often beyond). Your Personalized Grief Communication Plan and coaching calls happen over secure video or phone, making it easy to connect no matter where you are.
What ages do you support?
I work with families supporting children from toddlers through teens. Each plan is tailored to the child’s developmental stage, personality, and previous experiences. If you’re unsure whether your child’s age is a fit, feel free to reach out. I’m happy to chat it through.
What’s the process if I want to get started?
Start by choosing a service that feels right — either the First Light session or the Full Circle package. After booking, you’ll complete a short intake form to share details about your situation. We’ll use that to guide our first session, where we’ll create a plan and begin building the tools you need.
Do you offer support for pet loss, too?
Yes. I understand that for many children, the loss of a beloved pet is their first encounter with death. I can create a grief communication plan specific to pet loss, with language and activities to help your child process their feelings and honour their pet’s memory.
Is this therapy or counselling?
Great question and an important distinction. No, this is not therapy or mental health counselling. My role is to provide grief education, communication coaching, and practical guidance for families. While I bring trauma-informed care and deep experience supporting children and families, I do not diagnose or treat mental health conditions. If during our work I feel your family could benefit from therapy, I’ll gladly help connect you with trusted resources.
Is our information kept private?
Absolutely. Your family’s privacy and trust are my top priorities. All forms, notes, and plans are securely stored, and I never share your information without your explicit consent. This is a safe and confidential space for you and your loved ones.
Can I come back later for more support?
Absolutely. Many people return for Continued Care sessions as new questions arise or circumstances shift. Whether it’s been a few weeks or a few months, support is always available.
How soon should I reach out - before or after a loss?
Either is okay. Some families reach out before a death, when a loved one is seriously ill. Others connect during fresh grief, or even years later. There’s no wrong time to begin — we’ll meet you where you are.
Is this faith-based?
Red Bird is not affiliated with a particular religion. The support I provide can be adapted to reflect your family’s beliefs — whether secular, spiritual, or religious. You’ll always have input in how we approach these conversations.
Still Have Questions?
Whether you’re ready to book or just need to talk it through — I’m here.
